Simon Jackson MBE

1045 - 1130

Inspiration and raw talent!

Simon is Great Britain's most successful judo player of all time amassing an incredible 3 Paralympic, 3 World and 16 European gold medals throughout his astonishing 20 year career.

Spanning 5 Paralympic Games, Simon won his first gold medal at just 16 years of age in the Seoul Paralympic Games in 1988. He went onto successfully defend his title in Barcelona in 1992 and again Atlanta in 1996.

Following this unprecedented 3rd consecutive gold for the sport of judo, Simon was awarded the MBE in the 1997 New Year's Honours List for his services to judo.

In 2008, a niggling back injury saw Simon look beyond the judo matt, where he discovered tandem cycling. Within 3 weeks of his introduction to 4 times World Tandem Sprint and Kilometre Champion, Barney Storey, Simon and Barney were recording times that placed them firmly inside the top 3 in the world.

Simon is now a full time Tandem Sprinter and has competed in two major competitions. He wowed the crowds and Coaches in the 2008 Paralympic World Cup in which he won 2 silver medals just after 5 weeks on the Tandem!

After Simon’s great success on the Tandem after such a short period, the team at the Velodrome wanted him to train as a full time Athlete.

Simon then became more experienced on the Tandem and competed in the 2009 Paralympic World Cup and this time won two gold medals in the Tandem Sprint and Kilometre Time Trial. He has also won a silver medal in the UCI World Championships in the Tandem Sprint.

An unbelievable man with a more unbelievable inner drive to be the best. Straight talking with lessons for any business.
